‘Satyam/Bias’ will be an exploration of the progression of biases in each of us, in our relationships, and in society as a whole. The current picture of bias reflects blatant discrimination. But haven’t we all relied on stereotypes or approached someone with assumptions at some point? What are the long-term effects of this? What are the motivations to do this?
Maybe it makes our jobs easier, maybe it is a matter of adhering to our society’s expectations lest we be kicked out. Perhaps discriminating against one group allows another to feel superior or more bonded. While the justification is real for many, this can sadly lead to missed opportunities to build meaningful relationships or do what is right.
Indique has always had a mission to connect to people through our art by drawing on common universal, human experiences. Indian classical dance is timeless, and through this medium, our hope is to inspire awareness and unite the community through this exploration.
