Free Saturday Morning Fitness Series in Sammons Park
This spring, start your weekends with an exhilarating outdoor workout in the beautiful Dallas Arts District. The spring 2015 semester of Local Motion will begin Saturday, April 4 at 9 a.m. on the campus of the nonprofit AT&T Performing Arts Center. This popular series of free Zumba, Pilates and Yoga classes takes place in Elaine D. and Charles A. Sammons Park on Saturday mornings during spring and fall. Local Motion classes are always led by professional instructors and are a fun, healthy way to prepare for summer.
On the Saturday mornings in April, licensed Zumba Jammer Gloria Flores will again lead her popular classes. She also brings other skilled instructors to share different types of dances in each class.
In May, whether you have experience or are new to the mat, Pilates Methodology will get you moving and working from your core. Pilates is a great way to learn foundational exercises, build strength, stamina, and stability in your body, while improving your posture and core strength.
Experts from Uptown Yoga will lead the sessions in June. Let skilled instructors help you relax and guide you through poses that ease the stress of your daily life. Participants should bring their own mat, though the Center will provide extras.
Pearl Cup Coffee opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings in the Information Center in Sammons Park. Its award-winning menu offers delicious post-workout refreshments.
Since Local Motion began, hundreds of people from different areas of the Metroplex have participated. The Local Motion fitness effort is an important way to fulfill the Center’s mission to be a community gathering place, and is just one of many free activities happening this spring.
Local Motion begins at 9 a.m. outside the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, at 2403 Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District. Free underground parking is available in Lexus Red, which is accessed on Jack Evans Drive. Classes affected by inclement weather will be cancelled 24 hours in advance.
