For the Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share Celebration

Students from five Dallas ISD elementary schools took the stage at the Winspear Opera House last week for the Disney Musicals in Schools Student Share Celebration. Disney Musicals in Schools is a program developed by Disney Theatrical Group to create sustainable theatre programs in under-resourced public elementary schools, and the AT&T Performing Arts Center is one of the first organizations chosen for the program in the southwest United States. This year’s schools include L.O. Donald Leadership Academy, Ronald E. McNair Elementary School, School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove, K.B. Polk Center for Academically Talented and Gifted, and Solar Preparatory School for Girls.

The selected schools participated in a 17-week musical theater residency, led by a team of teaching artists trained by AT&T Performing Arts Center and Disney Theatrical Group, at no cost. Each school received performance rights, educational support materials and guidance from the teaching artists. The program featured a professional development focus, through which participating school teachers partnered with AT&T Performing Arts Center teaching artists to learn how to produce, direct, choreograph and music direct, culminating in their first 30-minute Disney KIDS musical at their school.
