Calhoun’s music has been described as catchy, irresistible, gorgeous, melodic, sorta poppy, sorta rootsy, sorta rockin’, and, in general, really splendid music. Singer and songwriter for the band, Tim Locke is well known amongst the Fort Worth scene for his work with former bands Dead City Radio and Coma Rally. In Calhoun, Locke soars to a new level of soundscape glory with a band worthy of his grand vision. Blending folk, rock and pop genres effortlessly, Calhoun envelopes the listener within their music and lyrics that in time can seep into the psyche and take hold with its building grip.
Featuring members of the Deathray Davies, Old 97’s, Apples in Stereo, the pAper chAse, (*The Polyphonic Spree and The Blurries,) and The Street Dogs, the Texas-based supergroup I Love Math take their cues from country-rock, power pop, and the harmonies of the Everly Brothers. Members John Dufilho (vocals, guitar), Jason Garner (bass), Philip Peeples (drums), and Andy Lester (keyboards) launched the group in the early 2000s, taking time out of their respective bands to focus on the sparse and poppy songs that soon comprised I Love Math’s self-titled debut. Although Dufilho later launched a solo career in 2005 and joined Apples in Stereo’s lineup the following year — all the while continuing to record and tour with his principal group, the Deathray Davies — I Love Math still found time to work on a sophomore effort. Getting to the Point Is Beside It arrived in May 2008, and the band toured alongside the Old 97’s that summer, with Philip Peeples serving as the drummer for both bands. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
